I saw my first Regal of the year Saturday at our farm in Osage County
Kansas. It was a male who was patrolling a milkweed patch and stopping to
nectar occasionally. The Butterfly Milkweed was in full bloom and the
Common Milkweed was just beginning to flower.
We have had Variegated and Great Spangled Fritillaries also within the last
two weeks. Conditions there are very dry. All the ponds are low.
