ESA / ESC joint meeting message

Hello again, everyone!  No sooner do I admit that I rarely post to the list
. . . here I am again.  This time with something quite different.

Dr. Dan Johnson, the current President of the Entomological Society of
Canada, sent me a note asking me to please post his message to the Lep
List.

How can I say "no?"  (After all, he invited me to Canada last year, where I
gave three talks in two days AND he had signed me up for a 6K road race, so
I got to do that too before I flew back to Iowa.  Two of the talks were
about learning theory, and I had almost as much fun doing those as running
the race.  The third talk was about my own research, which mostly centers
around developing science activities using Saturniids in K-12 classrooms;
that was also fun.)


So, not to let my Sunday evening prolixity run away with me . . . here it is:

August 15: Deadline to be listed in the Annual Meeting Program Book:

·        Requests for meeting rooms for Annual Meeting functions
·        Increase your visibility by advertising in the Annual Meeting
Program Book
·        Exhibitors submit your application and company description by this date
·        Student Entomology Clubs interested in sales at the Annual Meeting
·        Sponsorships of meeting functions

Early Nov: Deadline for submission of housing reservations and meeting
registrations

Dec. 3-7: The 2000 Joint Annual Meeting of the ESC/SEQ/ESA, Palais des
Congrès de Montréal.

BTW--the 13-year-old son who beat me in the mile yesterday is qualified to
run the 3000 M at the USATF Iowa State Championship meet next Saturday, and
(for those who know about running times) ran a 20:09 for 5K on a certified
course when he was ten.  I love it when he beats me . . . the next
generation SHOULD outshine ours!  That way progress as a whole is upwards
for our kind.
