Ground-nesting yellowjackets in Fairbanks, AK also seem to have a fairly
small attack distance--a couple of feet or so. And my standard method of
removing yellowjacket nests under the eaves of houses--both on the East
Coast and in Fairbanks--has been to stand about 10 feet from the house
with a hose turned to a fine, solid jet of water, and slowly wash the nest
away. The yellowjackets emerge and swarm angrily around the disintegrating
nest, but never fly down the stream of water and attack me (yet).
