help identifying caterpillar!

	As was suggested, it is possible that you saw the caterpillar of 
Syntomeida epilais, but this is an orange caterpillar with *tufts of 
hair*, not "spikes" as you suggest.  The Gulf Fritillary has the 
"spikes".
