It looks as if the Salinas Valley sites are not the ones being talked about in Ottowa in 1986. Those sites were all fatal to the Monarchs that stopped off at them. Obviously a lot of additional desert sites have turned up since then while I've been wandering around the tundra (where Monarchs are never seen). Ken Philip
