Hello all...my mother recently found a plump green sphingid on a potted Gardenia jasminoides on our front porch here in Johnson City, TN (elev. 1700'). It is approx 2" long, bright green dorsum, gray-green from the lateral stripes on down. It has 7 lateral white/purple stripes that are yellow-green towards the dorsum after crossing the line between adjacent segments. The curved horn is green with small spines on it, and the thorax bears small white grains which follow along faint white lines. Those small stripes and the grainy appearance do not continue onto the abdomen. The head is large and green with no markings. The true legs are brown and the anal plate is green with a yellow border but no white granulations.

Thanks for all your input. The larva also bears numerous parasitoid cocoons. A real shame.
