Chlosyne sterope

This butterfly was described as a distinct species by Edwards in 1870 (as
Melitaea sterope).  Around the 1960's strange things started to happen to it
in the literature; ranging from treating it as a form to treating it as a
subspecies of acastus to treating it as a subspecies of palla. I have yet to
see any reasons for these newer interpretations. If anyone knows of any
published or unpublished reasons for deviating from full species status for
sterope; plse drop me a line. Thx.
