The Common Name Debate!

I got a good chuckel yesterday. I belong to a number of lep lists and many listers post to several lists and copy to others. One of the Butterfly Society's in the south has a serious dilemma. They have gone beyond watching butterflies to watching Dragon Flies, the problem they face, their are few common names Drago Flies and they must either use scientific names or creat common names. A common name committee is being formed. Oh boy! Is there a list for dragon flies. This debate could get good! I assume there will be opposition to collecting dragon flies as well.

The reason for adding dragon flies to the watch is one of interest. They are an interesting bug to watch. A number of years ago while collecting moths in the Fakahatchee Strand, just before dark, the sky was filled with thousands of dragon flies. The dart and dodge was incredible to watch. Then it got dark and in came the moths! Needless to say, we lost interest in the dragon flies.
