Although NABA is not especially pro-collecting, it is carefully not
anti-collecting as evidenced by the published instructions for the 4th
of July Counts.

FROM THE 4TH OF JULY COUNT INSTRUCTIONS

Use blank lines to write in the names of species observed but not on the
count form. Please use NABA's checklist names (as in recent count
reports), either scientific or English.

Optional: Write method of ID after number seen: S sighted, B
binoculared, C collected, N netted and released, P photographed, G
genitalia dissection.

People may object to "binoculared" as a neologism, but the option of
collecting, netting-releasing, and genitalia dissection are included.

Genitalia dissection and releasing is, however, apparently not an
option.
