Peony Nectaring

In response to Mike Gochfeld's query: at the time the Peonies in the the
butterfly tent were in bud, we had a proliferation of Viceroys
on-the-wing, and these were most abundant on the Peony buds. There were
also Question Marks seen, though they were few in number in the garden at
the time. These are the only two butterfly species I've seen on the
rotting fruit I have placed in the garden as well, so perhaps there is a
correlation between the chemical components of rotting fruit and the
sticky, sweet substance on the Peony buds that the ants are also
attracted to!
