We covered DDT in detail about a year ago on Leps-l.

Some medical entomologists are convinced the evidence suggests the 
LACK OF USE of DDT in and on residences for malaria
control in developing countries has resulted in the neighborhood
of 1 million preventable deaths each year for the past 10-20 years.
 
DDT use confined to structures results in very little contamination
of the environment. But some of the big environmental activist 
organizations in the wealthy first world countries want all uses
of DDT immediately banned on a global scale.
