More on DMAP and field data

For DMAP, The distribution data for mapping can be entered into either a
text file, a
spreadsheet, a database, or a biological recording software package.  One of
the biological packages listed on Alan Morton's DMAP site is Bird Recorder
Software (The latter which I distribute here in North America -- commercial
disclaimer)

Bird Recorder software (which has a North American butterfly database based
on the full NABA list) has the Professional version that includes the basic
DMAP program.  With it, you could plot your sightings of any species --
butterfly, mammal or bird on an included digitized map of North America
showing state lines.  Maps more detailed than this can be obtained online
and some even downloaded free and run under DMAP.
