Digital slide scanner?

Anyone who plans to convert a number of 35mm color slides to
digital images should consider obtaining a dedicated slide scanner. As
other people have commented, there are a number of models available,
over a wide range of prices. I've been using a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual
for a couple of years now, and it works very well. Maximum resolution
is 2438 dots per inch (at the film surface). Units from other manu-
facturers with higher resolution (and larger image files) are available.
The Minolta unit will scan 35mm and APS transparencies (positive or
negative). The supplied software gives you a certain degree of control
over the digital image even if you don't have PhotoShop.
