You are quite right Mike. In this age when everything must be economically
relevant, Science has become Technology and Engineering, and the University
has become a Trade School and Polytechnic Institute. Seems there is no room
now for exploration for the sake of exploration, creativity for the sake of
art, discovery because it is there, appreciation because it is beautiful or
interesting. Everything must produce a payoff in money or wealth. The
humanities, arts and basic science have to take refuge now in Ashrams,
Tourism and Elderhostels that cater to those who still desire more than
money. The new cultural dark ages are upon us!
