how do they do it? seeing larvae

 >a 24"x18"x18" screen cage has worked fine for all the rearings I have 
tried. I gather a smaller one (even a one foot cube) will work too.

Why don't the butterflies just flap around trying to escape until they are 
dead?  I don't understand what makes the difference, if it's not size.   I 
have an 8x8x16" cage.
