raising swallowtails

I don't know if you can buy the eggs, but I always thought that the best
experience for the kids, when it comes to rearing insects, is the hunt for
the stock.  Why don't you go out and search the cherries and tulip trees for
the caterpillars?  While there's a chance some may be parasitized, some may
not be and you have the added satisfaction of giving the wild insects a
better chance at completing the cycle.  Then, if you'd like, you can get the
eggs from the next generation and start from scratch.

Just a thought...
