Last spring (April), during the huge V. cardui migration that occurred in
the west, we had a few individuals visit the sheet a few miles outside of
Needles, CA at around 11:00 p.m. Those who know the area will note that
this is mostly open desert - so it is less likely that these individuals
were merely disturbed from roosting locations. Of course, there were
zillions of cardui in flight during the day - so, merely from a statistical
perspective, a few night stragglers wouldn't be that surprising.
