Helen,
There are two major publications (books) that you can start with for
the classification of Lepidoptera:
Kristensen, N. P. (ed) 1999 Lepidoptera, Moths and Butterflies. 1.
Evolution, Systematics and Biogeography. Handbook of Zoology 4 (35),
Lepidoptera. de Gruyter. and
Scoble, M. J. 1995. The Lepidoptera: Form, Function, and Diversity. Oxford
University Press.
I think the first one will be of more use as you will be able to find
references for relevant revisions. Both should be available at any major
university library.
Cheers,
Niklas
