Randy,
I'm sure you'll have a great time. I've been to both Yosemite and
Sequoia and you will be right in the middle at Mono Hot Spgs. From
the map it looks like you will be limited to the west slope, with
access from Fresno via Rte.168. You will find very little is the
same as back east. Be prepared, it will take your breath
away....literally. You'll be at altitude, not like the little hills
back east. Bring headache medicine. The air is thin and dry, drink
water. Temps at night can be near freezing. You'll be a little early
for the best leps over 9,000 ft....most of those are going to be at
the end of July-begin Aug. You should have no trouble finding many
Sierran leps in the 5,500 to 8,000 ft. range incl. Speyeria species,
high altitude Pale swallowtails (wider black stripes and whiter
ground color), all types of lycaenids, etc. The Sierras are my
favorite place on earth. Enjoy!! :-)
Best, Rich
(proud to be a California nut!)
