Hi,
I use Phenol (one or two drops maximum per one quart relaxer) and it
seems to work just fine. With such small amounts the odor is not
offensive (I never leave the cover off the relaxer). It seems to last
forever (never had to replenish the phenol in several years), but I have
no idea of the effects on humans.
For private individuals, Phenol is not easy to buy. A pharmacist friend
got it for me. A 10 ml bottle will last me forever.
When I first put it in the relaxers, about 15 years ago, I placed a
small piece of tissue in the bottom of the relaxer and applied the
Phenol to the tissue with an eye dropper. It's still there, and seems
to be working perfectly - no fungus.
It's cold in Columbus Ohio right now. 0 C.
