I found a great selection of inexpensive and decently made tweezers, forceps, etc. with a vendor at a craft fair a few years back. You might try attending a similar venue in your area and/or inquiring with craft shops.

I wish to purchase forceps for spreading butterflies. I've never made this distinction; those that I currently use are designed for animal surgery. As you point out, these can be expensive, so a suggestion as to which type is best (or you prefer) would be helpful.

They list 102 forceps; they are not inexpensive however!
