The day before Ron passed away I was busy in his family home
state of Iowa photographing the spectacular abundance of
Painted Ladies and Monarchs:

While the crop monocultures of Iowa do not support a vast
diversity of butterfly species, they sure support vast
populations of weedy butterfly species such as Painted Ladies,
Monarchs and Alfalfa butterflies.
