I believe Dr. Phillip Callahan is a physicist. I was told that back in
the 1930's he publised some data in an optics journal (of all places)
that allegedly supported the idea that male moths do not detect
pheromones chemically, but instead the antennae are sensitive to IR
radiation that the pheromone molecules emit and this is what they
detect. This is the sort if thing I would expect from a physicist who
has no background in biology. However, the person who told me about this
has provided a list of references related to insects. Has anyone heard
of this person?
