Jeff should not forget about the collection of pinned specimens that he
donated to a museum a number of years ago. This donation was documented
in the Journal of the Lepidopterists' Society. He must be careful about
the size of the stones he throws at "collectors." Most of what he knows
was derived from prior "collector" researchers. Without specimens, he
wouldn't know about the sibling Celastrina spp, or that Pyrgus albescens
differs from Pyrgus communis. Good luck differentiating many of these
with a pair of binoculars (unless Jeff's binoculars can miraculously
peer into the genitalia of his subjects).
I personally think NABA is an organization of really great folks who
enjoy what they are doing. I am also a member. It's too bad that the
actions of its founder are damaging the credibility of the group as a
whole.
Best regards,
John Calhoun
