And in the upper Midwest during the past week or so
there have been numerous reports about the
large abundance of monarchs.

Below are two such reports, one from the Winnipeg area of Manitoba
and the other from Wisconsin:

I reported that a Monarch had come thru here on May 29.
Eggs were laid then and on each subsequent day.
Monarchs are streaming thru and don't stay on my land
for long. They come in from the SE or S and leave NW.
On May 31 I was on the dock at Gimli, MB, which is 50
miles north at about 97W 50 30"N, and a Monarch came
over the harbour wall from the south, skimmed the waves
in the harbour and disappeared inland to the NW.
There is milkweed for another 200 miles NW of here.

These are unusual numbers for me, and early.
Many accessible milkweed stems have eggs, up to 4
per stem.

This is a heck of a good indicator of a great
Monarch year!

"I have been finding so many many eggs, I now have 116
in the house, well actually about 30 have now hatched
already. I cannot beleive the number of eggs I am finding.
They are everywhere on every single milkweed plant. I
still have a ton out in my flowerbeds and there are some
milkweeds I didn't even get to check in our ditchline.
I went out today and on about 8-10 plants I took in
50 eggs, this was from out ditchline. Is anyone else
finding lots of eggs this early? I am in WI and I don't
think this is normal for this time of the year but I could
be wrong."
