Lepidoptera AToL Announcements - June 8th, 2006
A. Workshops at the 2006 Lepidopterist's Society Meeting.
B. How to get involved.
C. Coming Events.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
A. We are pleased to announce two workshops that will be held in
conjunction with the 2006 Lepidopterist's Society meeting in
Gainesville, FL
on June 14th. Information on location and time will also be posted at
the registration desk. All workshops will be video taped so those with
conflicting schedules can see the presentations, although we have tried
to minimize overlap with other events.
1. Lepidoptera AToL Online Database Demonstration
The creation of a comprehensive online database of lepidopteran
systematics is major component of the Lepidoptera AToL project and we
rely on the collective knowledge of the Lepidoptera research community
to obtain this information. Currently we are refining the online
template that will be used for data collection and entry. This
template will be demonstrated by Cyndy Parr on June 14th in the
McGuire Center library and adjoining conference room. Susan Weller and
Charlie Mitter will also be available to answer questions. Two
identical workshop sessions will be held to provide contributors an
opportunity to enter data on their group of interest, and provide
feedback on design and content. We encourage anyone who is interested
to participate in one of two identical sessions; the first will be held
from 1:00 - 2:30 PM, and the second from 2:45 - 4:15 PM. If you are
interested please fill out the form below and reply to Amanda Roe
(aroe at ualberta.ca) or Susan Weller (welle008 at umn.edu). For more
information please see the Lepidoptera AToL website (Leptree.net).

2. Noctuidae Morphology Homology Workshop.
On June 14th at 9:30 AM, an interactive homology workshop will be
hosted by Paul Goldstein and Don LaFontaine to discuss the trends and
homology problems in male genitalia of the Noctuidae and Erebidae.
Comparisons to other noctuoid families will be discussed as time
permits.
This workshop is a prototype for future morphology workshops, some of
which will be held at the 2007 Lepidopterist's Society Meeting. We
invite you to stop by to observe and/or contribute to the discussion.
The workshop will be held in Rm 3118 in the Dept. of Entomology and
Nematology at the University of Florida (a 5 minute walk from the
McGuire Center). Directions will be posted at the registration desk.
If you are have any questions, please contact Paul Goldstein
