Metrea (Crambidae): locality records

James,

I believe it is a Dirca specialist. It is quite rare in Connectciut and
I am pondering whether or not to propose it for protected status--would
like to finding evidence of breeding (and conduct a search for its
larvae) before proceeding.

We have only a single (very fresh) specimen from Connecticut--from a
calcareous fen in the northwest corner of the state, well away from any
known stand of Dirca.

If you find out when larvae are on the foliage, let me know, and I will
have my students keep a watch for the caterpillar. Our adult was
collected on 30 June.

Cheers

Subject: Metrea (Crambidae): locality records

Hello,

I am searching for any date and locality records of Metrea ostreonalis
Grt.(Crambidae: Odontiinae). It is much more widespread than published
records indicate (MONA 13.1B; Can.Ent. 107:131), but its full
distribution remains unclear. I am also interested in habitat
information and anything about its biology. Considering its rarity, I
would greatly appreciate all help.

Thank you,
Jim Hayden
