This week brings our academic year operation of the Blue Dog Café to
a close unfortunately. Because we just can?t quit cold turkey, we
will have limited hours this week to wean you off our good coffee.

* GRAD NIGHT @ THE YALE COLLECTION OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS /

Join us at the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments (15 Hillhouse
Avenue) at 5 pm on Monday, April 28 for a brief introduction to this
incredible and one of a kind collection of musical instruments. Stay
to tour the collection on your own and enjoy wine, non-alcoholic

Enjoy the YCC sponsored annual Spring Concert on the Old Campus, with
music, games and more. According to early press, Caribbean hip-hop
artist Kingston will kick off the concert at 4:30 p.m., followed by
alternative hip-hop/jam band The Roots at 5:35 and alternative
rockers Jimmy Eat World at 7:05. Kingston will play 45 minutes, The
Roots 75 and Jimmy Eat World 70. Yale ID needed to enter the concert.

The McDougal Center is about to turn 10! While your trusty Blue Dog
Cafe was not able to figure out how to rig a pinata in the Common

* HOW TO WRITE AND PUBLISH SCIENTIFIC PAPERS / (04-30-2008 5:00 -
6:00 PM)/
Join us in BASS 305 for a discussion on how to write and publish
scientific papers with our special guest speaker Dr. Susan Baserga,
Dept of MB&B and Genetics and Therapeutic Radiology. "Dr. Baserga
will discuss, with audience participation, the importance of writing
scientific papers at each stage of your career. She will present her
framework for how she approaches writing original research articles.
Tips on dealing with "writer's block" and suggestions on how to
address reviewers' comments will be included. Please register @:

* GSAS COMMENCEMENT RESPONSE CARD DEADLINE / (05-01-2008 )/
May 1 is the deadline for all 2007-08 GSAS degree recipients to
complete the online Commencement Attendance Response Card. You
should complete the card whether or not you plan to march at
Commencement- it tells the University where to send the diploma if
you do not attend the Ceremony. The form is ONLY available online at

The Graduate Student's monthly Happy Hour. Free soft drinks, local
microbrew from New England Brewing, and wine, and themed happy hour
snacks!! Held every month on the first Friday.Meet other grad/prof
students from around campus; grad students, spouses & partners &
families welcome. 21 and over to drink. This Month- Journey to the
Islands for the happy hour, with Caribbean food, drinks and music!
If the weather cooperates, we will even hold it in the courtyard.
* FAMILY FESTIVAL AND PICNIC / (05-03-2008 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM)/
McDougal Center, 320 York Street HGS courtyard or HGS Common Room
depending on the weather. This family event is for grad students and
post doc students with kids. Featuring a children's musical
performance, the Spiderman Moonbouncer and Hi-Striker Bell Ringer,
face painting and other fun games and entertainment. Lunch will be
provided. Indoor space booked in case of rain.
* CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP / (05-04-2008 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM)/
Interested in learning how to do Chinese calligraphy? Look for
further! On Sunday May 4th @11 am-2:30pm (HGS119), we will have
instructors on hand to teach the basics of calligraphy and help you
improve your style. Registration is ONLY $2 and includes all the
equipment needed. Lunch will also be provided. Email

Are you an artist looking for summer work? The City of New Haven will
be hiring artists for the summer. Attend 2 hour workshop to discuss
ways to create art on N.H sidewalks, how to get involved. Facilitated
by Bob Gregson, events artists and creative director of the
Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism. Workshop: Wed May 7th,

great way to stay balanced, healthy, and to get your daily
requirement of Vitamin D.
* AMY'S ARTS AND CULTURE TIP OF THE WEEK
Looking for a unique summer camp for your musical child? Check out
THE BEARFOOT BLUEGRASS CAMP FOR KIDS- an extrordinary opportunity for
kids 5-17. Some details: kids will choose 3 classes/day from the
following categories: guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, voice, bass.
There will be levels for all players- absolute beginner all the way
up to very experienced. Cost for all 4 days: $200. To be held at the

In light of the recent tragedy, a group of medical students have
taken the initiative to form a broad-based coalition with the goal of
improving traffic safety near Yale Medical Center. The coalition is
open to anyone; members with experience in advocacy or traffic safety
would be particularly valued. The first meeting will be held Monday,
April 28 at 5 PM in Marigold's cafeteria in Harkness Hall (367 Cedar

So far, this ultimate tourney has been a tremendous success, and we
couldn?t have done it without you. To that end we would like to

beverages, and more pick-up ultimate Frisbee out at the IM fields.

* SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES -G&P STUDENTS & POSTDOCS WANTED / (05-13-2008
)/
Inspire and encourage the next generation of scientists and
engineers!! On Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14, 2008, Yale
will host the annual New Haven city wide science fair. Yale,
community and industry volunteers with education, science and
technology backgrounds are needed to judge at the science fair. Over
200 student projects will be presented at the Fair at Yale Commons
(next to Woolsey Hall, corner grove & prospect). Preliminary judging
takes place on Tuesday, May 13 from 5-8 P.M. at Commons. Dinner will
be provided. Final judging will take place on Wednesday, May 14 from
9 AM until 12:00 PM. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for the
judges as they evaluate finalists. We request that judges volunteer
if they can commit to both days as consistency in judging is in the
best interest of the students. *Please consider registering to judge
and supporting our local students? interest in science and
