  * SOLES FOR SOULS / (ongoing )/
Soles for Souls:  Have shoes, sneakers, sandals you do not wear
anymore? Donate them to the Soles for Souls organization which is
sending shoes to the victims of the January earthquake.  Collection
boxes in HGS McDougal Center, Blue Dog Cafe, and Yale School of
Public Health (47 College)

  * DESSERTS AND MASSAGE BEFORE MIDTERMS / (03-01-2010 7-9pm)/
Midterms stressing you out? Need a break from writing papers? Come to
the McDougal Center Common Room for an awesome study break: mingle
with fellow grad students, get some tasty desserts, and de-stress
with a free chair massage! (Because desserts is stressed spelled
backwards.)  Sponsored by McDougal GSL, Health Education, and
Chaplain's office.

  * TRIVIA NIGHT FUNDRAISER  / (03-01-2010 9pm)/
Please join SEA for a Trivia Night fundraiser at GPSCY. Proceeds will
benefit Yale SEA and our many activities. There is a $20 entry fee for
a team of up to 5 and CASH PRIZES for 1st - 3rd places - the more
teams that enter, the greater the prize money! 8 rounds of 10
questions each, with a 20 team limit, so RSVP ASAP to
yalesea at gmail.com to hold your spot. Refreshments will be provided
and drink specials will also be available - all participants must be
21+ with ID. This event is sponsored by McDougal Grad Student Life.

  * GRAD PARENT LUNCH- CYBERBULLYING  / (03-04-2010 12-1:15pm)/
Cyberbullying: Standing Up to the Invisible Bully. Cyberbullying is
bullying through electronic technology: texts, emails, websites,
blogs, myspace/facebook, IM-ing, chat rooms, etc. You and your
children have probably seen it. Marji Lipshez- Shapiro, ADL?s
Director of Education, will share important information and insights
to help you understand the issues & help you teach your children to

  * INTERNATIONAL WOMEN?S DAY CELEBRATION / (03-04-2010 7-9:30pm)/
Join other Yale students and staff as we mark this global day
connecting all women around the world with a celebration by the
inspiring and talented women of the Yale community. The evening will
feature performances and presentations by student and spouse groups.

  * PRINCESS AND THE PROM  / (3-4 to April )/
Done with your Winter Ball dress? Have some prom dresses in the back
of your closet? Donate to the Princess and the Prom, a CT
organization that provides free prom dresses to local high school
girls who otherwise can?t afford one. We?ll be kicking off the
collection at the International Women?s Day Celebration on Thursday,
March 4th and running through April so don?t forget to search your
closet at home over spring break, too! Don?t have a dress to donate?
Princess and the Prom will hold its annual Dress Giveaway on March
26-28 and they are in need of volunteers to staff the event. Contact

Come celebrate St. Patrick's Day at our monthly First Friday @ Five
happy hour!  Feel free to show off your Irish pride by wearing as

(including soft drinks, beer & wine), and festive music! We do NOT
give out mugs or cups, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN REUSABLE MUG. 21+ with

Organize your intramural sports teams! Time for spring IM sports!
Register your department's team for soccer, softball, ultimate
frisbee, or volleyball by March 5. If you don't know if your

  * MAGGIE AND ULLI'S SOCIAL TIP OF THE WEEK
Start your St. Patrick's celebration out right!  The 99.1PLR ShamRock
& Roll 5K 2010 race will once again be held at the legendary Toad's
Place, 300 York St, on Sunday, March 7th @ 9AM.  The race will
feature on course entertainment and live music, and the post race
party hosted by 99.1PLR and Toad's Place.  Run the event seriously or
walk or jog for fun in costume.  Prizes for the best individual and
group costumes will be awarded in the St. Patty's Division and the

The Festival of Arts and Ideas typically runs for almost 3 weeks
during the summer in New Haven, putting various kinds of artsy
events.  Volunteers are an essential part of the events.  Check here

  * THE BLUE DOG T-SHIRTS ARE HERE!  / (now! )/
The Blue Dog Cafe T-shirts, featuring the winning design from the BDC
T-Shirt design contest last semester, are here! They cost $15 and we
have a variety of sizes available. Come get your own Blue Dog Cafe
T-shirt, and let the world know that our lovely cafe have been
stimulating great minds, since 1998! 

  * NEIGHBORHOOD MUSIC SCHOOL PERFORMATHON  / (until 3-7 )/
A marathon week of music and dance recitals will raise money and
awareness for the school's Financial Aid program. Over 600 students
will participate in Performathon 2010 to raise  $35,000+ to support
those who could not otherwise to attend classes at NMS. Free.

  * KICKBALL LEAGUE / (Sundays 2pm)/
Kickball season is quickly approaching! Pre-registration is now open
for returning players (www.kickball.com CT IVY League  and use
password: ctivy10)!  This season's name is Schweddy Balls.  The
season will start April 11th, going until June 20th.  Sundays at 2:30
and 3:30 games will be at East Rock Park, near the big concrete
bleachers.  Check out the kickball.com CT Ivy page for more details. 
Even if you register now, they won?t charge your credit card until the
league is set, so probably late March/early April.  We'll probably try
to have a couple practices/spring training once the snow melts a bit. 
Get ready to shake off that rust!

  * CAFFEINE AWARENESS MONTH / (March )/
Be aware of and try to control how much caffeine you consume this
month, in coffee, soda, and energy drinks. Try reducing your caffeine
intake, especially at night, for better health & sleep. Drink herbal
teas, try 1/2 caf coffee at home, and drink water or juice. Avoid the
empty calories & high caffeine in so-called energy drinks & sodas. The
Blue Dog cafe has a range of non-caffeinated beverage choices, too.

  * URBAN FARMING IN WESTVILLE / (03-03-2010 6-7:30)/
Springside Liberty Garden's Coordinator Tom Bell is giving an
informational session on Building Community Through Urban Farming. It
will include discussion about the community building benefits of urban
farming, and participants are invited to take part in the community
garden, located just a 10-minute walk from Westville Center.

  * SOUTH ASIAN CLASSICAL ARTS SHOW / (03-04-2010 8pm)/
Yale Raga Society, South Asian Society, and Anjali are hosting Yale's
second annual all-classical South Asian arts show! The performances
include Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance, Carnatic and Hindustani
vocal, and Urdu ghazals. Please email yaleclassicalshow at gmail.com to

  * MANAGING STRESS EFFECTIVELY- WORKLIFE WORKSHOP  / (03-17-2010

  * BRAIN AWARENESS DAY / (03-20-2010 9am-4pm)/
Volunteers Needed for Brain Awareness Day 3/20/10. On Brain Awareness
Day, local high school students will join us at the medical school to
learn about basic neuroscience concepts through short talks by
University students and faculty, and hands-on activities. Students
will rotate through 20-minute sessions: sheep brain dissection,
comparative neuroanatomy, cellular neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and
sensation & perception. Brain Awareness Day is a Science Pathways
event developed by Yale neuroscience graduate students. Volunteers
are needed to help register students, walk them between sessions and
serve lunch. If you are a student or post-doc interested in science
outreach, it is a great way to get involved. Contact: Joanna Price
