WOMEN OF PASSION: Yiddish Poets Kadya Molodowski, Rokhl Korn, Rokhl
Fiszman, Malka Heifets Tussman, and others. Presentation and Discussion,
Sunday, April 12, 2009 10AM- 11:30AM, Town & Village Synagogue, 334 East
14th Street (btwn 1st and 2nd Aves)
During the height of the great 20th century Yiddish civilization, women
writers were above all known for their poetry. Elegant use of language,
controlled yet honest emotion, and unabashed passion were hallmarks of
their writing. Miri Koral, a lecturer in Yiddish at UCLA and Director of
the California Institute for Yiddish Culture and Language in Los Angeles,
will present a selection of these unique, award-winning poets through
readings from their works in the original Yiddish and English translation
and audience discussion. (No knowledge of Yiddish required.)
