Call for Papers: Jewish Studies in the Soviet Union

The Center for Biblical and Jewish Studies at Russian State University for 
the Humanities, Moscow, invites paper-proposals for a conference on 
"Jewish Studies in the Soviet Union", to be held in Moscow on December 
14-16, 2009.

Among the topics which will be considered at the conference are the 
following:
* Jewish studies research institutions in the USSR
* Yiddish-language higher education in the 1920s and 1930s
* Hebraic and Semitic studies in the USSR
* The Jewish Historical-Ethnographic Society under Soviet rule (until 
1930), and the
Jewish Historical-Ethnographic Commission (1981-1987)
* The Educational Activities of the Jewish National Movement (1970s to 
1991)

We invite interested scholars to submit a 250-word proposal summarizing 
their paper by E-mail to: judaica_mark at mail.ru , prior to September 1, 
2009.

Russian State University for the Humanities will provide housing and meals 
for all conference participants whose proposals are accepted.

The working languages of the conference will be Russian and English; 
Russian State University for the Humanities Press will publish a volume of 
the conference proceedings.
