Subject: Avrom Sutzkever Remembered


The California Institute for Yiddish Culture and Language in Los Angeles 
(CIYCL) is pleased to announce its next event in the 2010 Showcase of 
Contemporary Yiddish Culture:  Sunday, April 11, 2010, 2 PM:  "Avrom 
Sutzkever Remembered:  The Extraordinary Life and Works of the Greatest 
Jewish Poet of Our Day", featuring prize-winning resident Yiddish poet 
Moshe Shklar presenting personal reminiscences and a literary overview  of 
Sutzkever's oevre.  Guest readers, including veteran Yiddish actor  Jacob 
Lewin, will read selections from Sutzever's works.  And our honored guests 
Theo Bikel and Tamara Brooks will perform one of Sutzkever's poems set to 
music.

In Yiddish and English.

General admission $10; $8 Members; $3 Full-time students.
Location:  8339 W. 3rd Street, Los Angeles, 2nd floor. This event is 
co-sponsored by the LA Yiddish Culture Club (LAYCC), with the support of 
Nurit and Rick Amdur and the Ruth Ziegler Foundation.  The cultural 
series is dedicated to the memory of Lilke Majzner, the late LAYCC 
president and member of the CIYCL board.

IMPORTANT:  Please include your full name as you would like it to appear 
in your posting.  No posting will appear without its author's name. 
Submissions to regular Mendele should not include personal email 
addresses, as responses will be posted for all to read.  They must also 
include the author's name as you would like it to appear.

In order to spare the shamosim time and effort, we request that 
contributors adhere, when applicable, as closely as possible to standard 
English punctuation, grammar, etc. and to the YIVO rules of
