Sunday 14 - Friday 19 August 2011 Tumbala!

Yiddish Song Course SOAS University of London, Russell Square Campus, 
Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG

A special course for singers with classical and folk backgrounds who wish 
to engage with Yiddish repertoire. Study Yiddish vocabulary and grammar in 
the mornings with Ot Azoy! In the afternoons some of the finest exponents 
of Yiddish song led by Shura Lipovsky (Amsterdam) with theatre star Joanne 
Borts (New York), Polina Shepherd (Brighton) and Hilda Bronstein (tbc) 
will guide singers in pronunciation, meaning, style and interpretation of 
this huge and varied repertoire - this year with an emphasis on Yiddish 
Theatre song. There will be a concert of Yiddish Song on Sunday 14 August. 
"I have had one of the best weeks of my life! It was, truly very emotional 
- full of outstanding people, music, teachers, singers, experiences, and 
song".

Submissions to regular Mendele should not include personal email 
addresses, as responses will be posted for all to read.  They must also

contributors adhere, when applicable, as closely as possible to standard 
English punctuation, grammar, etc. and to the YIVO rules of
