Mendele Personal Notices & Announcements
February 16, 2012
To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:
1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.
2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or attachments;and
write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line.
3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has
posted the notice,
*not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

Subject: New book features Vilnius Yiddish Institute
I'm pleased to announce the publication of my new book, "We Are Here:
Memories of the Lithuanian Holocaust" (University of Nebraska Press),
which begins with my enrollment at the Vilnius Yiddish Institute, evokes
the world of the yidishkayt in the one-time Jerusalem of Lithuania (land
of my forebears), and then expands into an examination of how people in
Lithuania today are engaging with their 20th-century past.
Many scenes involve studying Yiddish with wonderful teachers, my love of
Yiddish, and reflections on Yiddish literature.
Michael Steinlauf, author of Bondage to the Dead: Poland and the Memory of
the Holocaust, says: "Pioneering...will reach out to all those who care
about not replaying in this new century the disasters of the century that
has just ended."
