Don’t miss the annual all-Yiddish program in memory of Dr. Mordkhe
Schaechter z"l.

Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 1:00 P.M., at the Center for Jewish History, 15
West 16th St., Manhattan.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Samuel Kassow, Professor of History,
Trinity College, author of "Who Will Write Our History: Rediscovering a
Hidden Archive From the Warsaw Ghetto," speaking on "A Historian in the
Ghetto: Emanuel Ringelblum and the Oyneg Shabes Archive."
Gella Schweid Fishman, Yiddish educator, activist, and poet, will speak on
"My Neighbor Mordkhe Schaechter."
Anthony Mordechai-Tzvi Russell will sing from the Sidor Belarsky repertoire
accompanied by Alexander Ruvinstein.
Refreshments served.
This event is free and open to the public, and is co-sponsored by The
League for Yiddish and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.

About Ringelblum: Between 1940 and 1943 Emanuel Ringelblum organized and
directed the Oyneg Shabes Archive in the Warsaw Ghetto. Of the 60 people
who worked in the archive, only 3 survived. The archive reminds us that one
can fight not only with guns and rifles but also with ink and paper. Thanks
to Ringelblum, future generations were able to write the history of the
ghetto on the basis of not German, but rather, Jewish sources.
