We invite all to the Annual All-Yiddish Program in Memory of Dr. Mordkhe
and Charne Schaechter z”l which will take place this Sunday, July 12, 2015,
1:00 P.M. at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, 15 West 16th St.,
Manhattan. The event is co-sponsored by the League for Yiddish and YIVO.
The main speaker will be Dr. Kenneth (Binyomen) Moss, Posen Associate
Professor of Modern Jewish History, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore,
author of Jewish Renaissance in the Russian Revolution. He will speak on
“Nationalism, the State and the New Antisemitism in Zionist, Diasporist and
Territorialist Thought, 1929-1939.”
Itzik Gottesman, noted folklorist and currently senior lecturer of Yiddish
at the University of Texas at Austin, will speak on “My Uncle Mordkhe.” The
musical program will feature singer/songwriter Zhenya Lopatnik from
Kharkov, Ukraine. Her songs can be heard at klezmer events all over the
world. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the
public.
