Mendele Personal Notices and Announcements
Date: Oct 25, 2018

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.
2. Send material as plain text to victor.bers at yale.edu as plain text (no
HTML, other coding, or attachments) and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the
subject line.
3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted
the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

“On the Landing: Stories by Yenta Mash”

Yenta Mash (1922-2013) was a giant among women writing in Yiddish, a
prize-winning writer whose work is now available in English for the first
time. Her autobiographical stories trace an arc from prewar Bessarabia to
the Siberian gulag to Soviet Moldova to Israel in the 1970’s. They are
keenly relevant to our times, when displaced people seek refuge across the
globe. “On the Landing: Stories by Yenta Mash,” translated by Ellen
Cassedy, has just been published by Northern Illinois University Press.
