Position Open: Assistant Professor, Comparative Literature and Social Justice
Tenure-track position in Comparative Literature, with expertise in critical race
studies and/or gender studies. We seek a scholar-teacher engaged with issues of social
justice and social change in relation to literatures across national, cultural, and/or
ethnic traditions. Preference for applicants with expertise in at least one Anglophone
literature. We also seek candidates with experience teaching literature to
undergraduates, in teaching and advising students of diverse backgrounds, in community
outreach or service learning, and/or in international education. The ability to teach
effectively at all levels and the potential to contribute to the on-going
diversification of our undergraduate curriculum are important. PhD in English,
Comparative Literature, or a related field must be completed by June 2009.
Teaching responsibilities include first-year composition, courses for the English major
and/or general education, upper-level courses in the candidate's specialty, and
occasional courses in the department's MA program. Excellent teaching and publication,
in addition to service and student advising, are expected for tenure and promotion.
