The Native American and Indigenous Studies Association was founded in 2008
as a professional organization dedicated to supporting those who work
inside and outside the academic world in the scholarly field of Native
American/American Indian/ First Nations/ Aboriginal and Indigenous
studies. The association will hold its first annual meeting at the
University of Minnesota, Twin Cities May 21-23, 2009. The University of
Oklahoma (2007) and the University of Georgia (2008) hosted meetings at
which participants decided to formally organize.
