Position Announcement

Department of Education Policy Studies
 Assistant/Associate Professor Rank Tenure-track Faculty Position in the
Educational Leadership Program

 

The Educational Leadership Program is seeking to make a new tenure line
appointments to its faculty.  This is a search with a focus on
educational policy and politics, including theories of political
decision making, power and influence at multiple levels of government
and society, educational reform, policy development, implementation, and
analysis.
 
 
Appointment conditions


This appointment's anticipated start date is Fall Semester 2010.  It is
a tenure-track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of
supplementary summer appointments in research and/or teaching.  Full

Responsibilities

*	Teach core courses and advanced seminars for the Educational
Leadership program; 
*	Advise master's and doctoral students in Educational Leadership;

*	Conduct nationally and internationally recognized research and
scholarship in areas related to educational policy and politics; 
*	Seek external support for research; and 
*	Engage in service and outreach activities with appropriate
audiences, including practitioners, and make strong linkages with the
field.


Required qualifications

*	Earned doctorate in educational leadership, education policy or
a relevant discipline; 
*	Evidence of a developed or developing program of research and a
record of refereed publications commensurate with academic rank; 
*	Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising,
including the use of technology; 
*	Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with
individuals from diverse backgrounds, and; 
*	Evidence of a commitment to seeking external support
commensurate with academic rank.


Desirable qualifications

*	Evidence of a deep understanding of educational policy and its
implications for the processes of teaching and learning as applied to
K-12 education; 
*	Evidence of successful efforts to obtain external resources to
support research and teaching; 
*	Evidence of a strong commitment to public service; 
*	Evidence of collaboration across academic disciplines; and 
*	Evidence of a commitment to educational leadership as a function
that is carried out through multiple formal and informal roles.

The College houses five academic departments: Counselor Education,
Counseling Psychology and Rehabilitation Services; Curriculum and
Instruction; Education Policy Studies; Educational and School Psychology
and Special Education; and Learning and Performance Systems. The
departments offer seven undergraduate majors to more than 2,687 students
and 13 graduate programs, under authority of the Graduate School, to

Education among the top colleges, schools, and departments of education

Department of Education Policy Studies (EPS)


The Educational Leadership Program is housed in the Department of
Education Policy Studies, which includes four degree-granting programs:
Higher Education, College Student Affairs, Educational Theory and
Policy, and Educational Leadership (where this position is situated).
The Department also shares two non-degree programs:  American Indian
Leadership and Comparative International Education.

master's and doctoral students capable of researching, analyzing, and
managing the critical issues and concerns facing elementary and
secondary education in the United States and internationally.
 

The Educational Leadership Program is ranked fifth in the nation by
U.S. News and World Report.  The program offers doctoral and master's
degrees in Educational Leadership and a joint graduate degree program
with the Dickinson School of Law.  Additionally, the program provides
the Principal and Superintendent Certification Programs, which are fully
accredited by the State of Pennsylvania and NCATE.  Educational
Leadership faculty members serve as editors or associate editors for
seven academic journals, including the American Journal of Education,
Education Finance and Policy, and the Journal of Research in Rural

operated by program faculty, including the American Indian Leadership
Program, Center for the Study of Leadership and Ethics, Center on Rural
