Job Description: The Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks to add a full time (100% FTE, 9 month term) assistant, associate, or full professor. This is a tenure-track/tenured position that will begin August 2019; appointment will be at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor, depending on past experience and record of scholarship.

Candidates are encouraged to apply whose specialization includes expertise in indigenous environmental stewardship and sustainability, leadership and ethics, treaty rights, fisheries and wildlife stewardship, ecology, and conservation practices.

This faculty member will contribute to the academic programs of the department by teaching up to 18 contact hours per year. Courses will be for the Master of Tribal Resources and Environmental Stewardship and the Master of Tribal Administration and Governance program as well as our undergraduate programs. Depending on rank, this faculty member will serve as the Director of the Master of Tribal Resource and Environmental Stewardship program. This faculty member will be responsible for serving as an undergraduate and graduate advisor for a diverse community of students, participating in faculty governance and professional service, and maintaining an active research agenda.

American Indian Studies is an academic department continuing a robust four-decade legacy in which active scholars serve to educate students, colleagues, and the public about tribal sovereignty, indigenous cultures, and the historical and contemporary experiences of Native peoples and nations.
