Folks,
I would like to know the opinions of others about laser printers and
xerographic methods for generating labels. I have read that mainframe
laser printers, as opposed to desktop laser printers, are capable of
producing archival labels. This is due to the increased heat and pressure
that they use. Does anyone use a mainframe printer? What models? Do you
agree with this statement? Are the labels generated stable in ethanol,
assuming the paper used is suitable for use in ethanol?
On a related note, does anyone use xerographic reproduction to make
labels? Again, is this method considered good for long term stability in
a dry environment as well as in ethanol?
For what it is worth, I still use a dot matrix, impact printer with a
carbon ribbon on archival paper. I'm just wondering where the technology
is leading us. Thanks for your input.
Regards,
Charlie
