Hi Kylie

I'm new here, I just noticed that hitting the reply button to a NHCOLL-L 
post sends a reply to the poster, not back to the list.  So maybe autoreply 
problems aren't likely on NHCOLL-L.  Replying to posts from other 
listservs   sends a message back to the list, (ORNITH-L  &  BIRDBAND for 
instance.)  Since some lists are very large, chances are that some members 
may also have autoreply activated.  Then you may get machines 
automatically  replying thousands of times back and forth. If it happened 
via a listserver, list  members would notify the administrator who would 
hopefully quickly shut out  the offending machines temporarily.   If 
directly between two email accounts whose owners are out of town, the only 
ones who will know are the ISP's that have smoke rising out of their email 
servers!  It can happen,  just ask my ISP...
