	ADMINISTRATIVE CURATOR at The New York Botanical Garden Herbarium

	The Herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden, a worldwide
collection of about 6 million specimens of all plant and fungal groups, is
not only one of the largest in the world but also one of the most active in
terms of specimen loans and acquisitions.  The Herbarium staff of 25 serves
the research community by providing loans of specimens, posting specimen
data in on-line catalogs, and hosting researchers' on-site visits.  The
staff also processes collections made primarily in the Neotropics by the
staff of NYBG's research departments. 

	This position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in
a career in administration in a large, active, modern herbarium that serves
research worldwide.  The person in this position will: interact with the
national and international scientific community through oversight of the
specimen transaction program; represent and promote the Herbarium by giving
tours of the facility, presenting Herbarium projects at scientific meetings
and on the NYBG web site; contribute to the growth, curation, and usefulness
of the collection by participating in new specimen acquisition initiatives,
in seeking project funding, and identification and/or curation of specimens
in area of expertise.

	QUALIFICATIONS:  Masters or Doctoral degree in some aspect of plant
or fungal taxonomy; herbarium management experience; familiarity and ease
with computer databases; ability to work independently and to function
cooperatively as part of a team; excellent communication and interpersonal
skills; ability to deal with detail and produce accurate work.
	SALARY:  Commensurate with experience.
	STARTING DATE:  After 1 July, 2001; specific date is negotiable.
