Events and Public Programs Officer

The Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University is seeking an
Events and Public Programs Officer. Serving under the direction of the
Director of the Museum and reporting to the Board of Curators, the Events
and Public Programs Officer determines and sets the overall calendar of
public programs relevant the subject areas of the Museum, natural history
and anthropology, and in recognition of the Museum's goal to serve and
attract a broad and diverse audience. Will require attendance at weekend
and evening events.

Essential duties
1. Collaborate with Museum staff and pertinent outside resources to
implement public programs, prepare publication and marketing materials,
oversee the preparation of supporting materials for individual events,
including written, oral and multimedia presentations.
2. Conduct the day-to-day functions for the events program, including
preparation of annual schedule, presentation of plans for staff allocation,
and the development of the annual events budget.
3. Supervise and coordinate staff and other relevant personnel within the
Museum, the University and the larger community as necessary to implement
Museum events.
4. Serve as liaison of the museum to individual University and community
events, committees and other organizations as needed.
5. Actively engage civic and community based organizations in the planning
of the annual events calendar.
6. Reach out to student organizations and the Yale community for relevant
local events.
7. Coordinate summer internship program.
8. Participate in donor-relations and fundraising efforts.
9. Contribute to long-term exhibition and facilities planning.

Experience and training
Bachelor's degree in related scientific field plus three years experience
in program planning, events coordination, educational programming, public
relations, or community outreach, or equivalent combination of education
and experience.
PREFERRED: Museum experience. Master's degree in Museum Studies or related
scientific field.

Skills and abilities
1. Good oral and written presentation skills.
2. Ability to interact and work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
3. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and standard on-line applications.
