[NHCOLL-L:1254] Need Advice Best Way to Number Seeds for Seedbank

I would appreciate any suggestions for the best way to number seeds in a
seedbank that saves some seeds, propagates a sampling of the saved seeds,
then saves some of the propagated seeds, and so on.  At some point the
propagated seeds will be made available to the Native American community.
I am cataloging and trying to devise a numbering system for heirloom Native
American seeds for the Dream of Wild Health, a Lakota seed saving project.
I need a numbering system that will effectively track the generations (or
lots) both backward to the original lot and forward through the harvests.
Please illustrate with an example.  Thanks.
