Senior Biological Scientist (SBS) - Herpetology Collection Manager

The Florida Museum of Natural History invites applicants for a Senior
Biological Scientist (SBS) position to serve as Collection Manager to
conserve, maintain, and promote the growth and utilization of one of the
nation's largest herpetological collections (ca. 190,000 specimens/specimen
lots) and the associated database and library. The applicant must have
knowledge of the herpetological literature and current research, and
collection management. The position reports to the Curator of Herpetology
and is responsible for specimen preparation, cataloguing, computer
databases, collection organization, loans, training and managing OPS staff
and volunteers, handling professional and public inquiries and assisting
collection users. At times the SBS may be asked to assist the curator in
preparing the annual budget, preparing the laboratory portion of herpetology
courses, planning and administering the annual herpetology conference, and
participate in field trips and research projects. Salary (= $31,000 or more)
will be commensurate with experience. Insurance and retirement benefits are
included.

Qualifications: A Bachelors Degree degree in zoology, wildlife sciences or
the equivalent, with 3-years experience in herpetology, systematics, and
collection management are required. Appropriate college coursework may
substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Preference
will be given to applicants with advanced degrees.
