REQUEST:

The YouthALIVE networks were established to provide professionals who work
with youth in museums professional development and networking opportunities.
The YouthALIVE programs serve underrepresented youth to develop work skills,
explore career and college options, and academic achievement through museum
experiences.

Janice is part of the Midwest YouthALIVE network I chair.  She is formally
with the Imaginarium of Racine which has closed. Janice and another staff
member have been working/volunteering without a museum, money, or a board
since august.  I am constantly impressed with thier dedication to
establishing a museum in Racine.  Thier youth program performs outreach
presentations to raise money and support for thier effort.  If there is any
way you can help her with her request(see message below) it would be
appreciated.  If you have items available please let me know.

Hello All!

We have a special request. The YouthALIVE! team are hosting
a storefront of hands-on activities at our local mall in concert with
the Home Show, in an effort to showcase their hands-on activities that
they can be hired to bring to schools, after school programs, club and
church activities, corporate events, etc.

We are working on a no/low budget, and we are wondering if you have
leads on where we can find the following items at no/low cost.  Say,
for instance,your hands-on educational collections have been refreshed
and your tired, visitor worn collection needs a new home...we could
always pay packaging and shipping!  If you could reply by February
15th, we would greatly appreciate it!  Also, if you know of suppliers
that are low cost, that would be great.  Thank you!  Oh, regarding
size - we're looking for things that will not fit through the
cardboard cylinder of a toilet paper roll - that's the measure for
chokable items.

Animal pelts -  Handleable - not treated with anything like arsenic...

Animal bones/skulls - any kind - clean and loose, mounted, in plexi,
etc.

large magnets - bigger than the inside of a toilet roll

big, pretty shells

balance scale

human skeleton/organ/body part puzzles, models - not the authentic
homo sapiens variety...we don't think we could explain why we're
receiving human remains at the post office...

rocks/fossils - we have lots of pyrite, quartz dog tooth, building
type limestone with teensy fossils - anything else would be fun

cars with wheels/bodies that can be interchanged and tracks

musical instruments for toddlers - percussion mostly
