NMAH and AAM host National Collections Planning Colloquium
The National Museum of American History and the American Association of
Museums are hosting the Collections Planning Colloquium-a working session of
museum professionals from across the country convened to assist museums and
the field as a whole in identifying effective ways to engage in collections
planning. It will be held in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian's S.
Dillon Ripley Center on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, 2002.
Building on preliminary research by NMAH and AAM, participants will:
* Analyze sample collecting plans to identify elements that are
broadly useful and desirable, or may be needed by museums on a case-by-case
basis
* Create guidelines for the purpose, content, and structure of
collecting plans
* Identify strategies to surmount the challenges of writing and
implementing collecting plans
Applications are encouraged from all museums of all discipline types and
size. Up to 60 participants will be accepted-preference will be given to
museums who commit to sending more than one staff member. There is no
participation fee. Further information and the application form are
available on the AAM Web site at www.aam-us.org <http://www.aam-us.org/>
