[NHCOLL-L:1601] Hand carrying specimens post-Sept. 11th

I was wondering if anyone has any experience hand carrying specimens on
airlines post-Sept. 11th.  We are attempting to coordinate the return of
some very historically significant specimens, and the issue of airline
regulations and increased security has come up.  Specifically, does anyone
know what the procedure is if you are selected for one of the additional
security checks?  We are concerned about possible damage to the specimens if
they are handled by airport security.  Any help will be appreciated.
